A new law in Texas, known as Bentley’s Law, has been passed to hold drunk drivers accountable for their actions. The law requires individuals convicted of intoxication manslaughter to pay restitution to the families of their victims. Payments will begin one year after the defendant is released from prison and will continue until all surviving children of the victims reach the age of 18. The law is named after Bentley, a surviving grandson of one victim, and aims to provide financial support to the families left behind. Similar laws have been passed in four other states, and the advocate behind Bentley’s Law is hopeful that more states will follow suit. The law is seen as a significant step in deterring drunk driving and ensuring that the families affected receive the necessary support. You can read more about the story here.
